Love the warmth Dec 12, 2005
By Marisa Nitsch No more cold nights for me=) I have to say this blanket was the best blanket I ever purchased. I tend to get cold often, especially at night. I set the blanket on preheat about 10minutes before I am headed to sleep. It preheats the sheets and warms the bed, so when you first lay down your on a nice warm bed! Much better then cold sheets. The temperature control unit is quite nice. Its digital and lights up in the dark, just enough to see, not overally bright at all. It ranges from PH (preheat) through H (high) with 1-10 in the middle. I tend to keep it on a higher setting at first then adjust it to around 4 or 5 for the night. Best thing is the blanket has an autoshut off. Many mornings I awake and rush out and forget to turn the thing off, but I need not worry. I've had mine a few months now and would not trade it.
I keep an extra blanket on my bed as well, although its light. I have my sheet, then the electric blanket, then another blanket on top. It keeps the electric one cleaner and some people prefer more of a snuggly blanket. At least this way you get the best of both worlds:)

Wonderful Warmth Jan 17, 2006
By mlp My other Sunbeam blanket gave it up after 9 seasons, so we ran out to get another. One night without it was enough for me. As the other reviewer states, this blanket has a nice glowing indicator, an auto turnoff and best of all a Preheat (although the blanket heats up much faster than my old one, and almost as fast as the preheat). We too put the blanket on top of a top sheet and under a down comforter... would recommend this HIGHLY. Getting into a bed with toasty warm sheets in the middle of winter is such a nice indulgence....

Deteriorating Sunbeam Blankets Oct 06, 2009
By Brad I agree with most posts about Sunbeam electric blankets. Over the last 5 years, we've had two Sunbeam heating blankets that have deteriorated to the point of being useless. Each one did the same: over 2-3 years the blankets would start out great, then as they were used, the heating quality would drop. It would take 1-2 hours to get the bed bearly warm. I measured the blanket ohm resistance when new and after 2 years. The resistance approximately doubles which tells me that the coils are designed to do that so we are required to buy a new one every 2-3 years. I've been on the hunt to find a good electric blanket that keeps working after 10-20 years (just like they used to). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, last year we bought the Royal Velvet Electric Blanket. Before use I measured the resistance - it measured 114 ohms. Over the winter season it worked great and with several blankets on top, it would almost get too hot. So having one or two blankets on top was perfect. After a full season, I again measured the resistance and it is 114 ohms. There has been NO loss of heating effect either in resistance or in actual use over the winter/spring. I don't like the control as well as the Sunbeam, but I'll take a less desirable control any day over a Sunbeam blanket that is designed/engineered to go bad in a couple years.

The Lint it Gives Off Just Isn't Worth It Nov 13, 2007
By KCE I bought and brought this electric blanket home about a week ago. I read the directions and washed it accordingly. I have a conventional down comforter and a big lug of a husband that keeps me warm in bed so my intentions were to keep it on my chair in the den to help keep the chill off while watching TV in my new mountain home. It does not get as hot as I expected, but it's warm and cozy enough --I would prefer that it got hotter though. What I can not stand is the lint that comes off of this thing, it's crazy!!!
It EVERYWHERE in my house, everywhere! Big, huge lint balls EVERYWHERE! It gets on my pajamas then in my bed, bedroom, on my rugs, in my den of course, on all my furniture, but worst of all it gets in my MOUTH and UP MY NOSE! I'm completely serious and not exaggerating. It's almost not worth it; I've thrown away conventional blankets for this very reason.
I wish I would have known before buying.

So much fuzzy Apr 30, 2007
By G. Danus While this blanket does it's job, I do have several negative comments.
The first is that it takes a very, very long time to warm up. This is my first electric blanket, so I don't know the standard, but it takes roughly 30-40 minutes to get to a temperature thats mildly hot. That seems a bit excessive to me.
My other gripe is the sheer amount of fuzz this thing lets out. I put it inside of my duvet in between the duvet and my down comforter and in a few days there were many fuzz balls leaking out of the back of the duvet. I opened the duvet hole to discover an entire colony of hundreds of fuzz balls in the duvet (I'm not exaggerating). They're everywhere! In my hair, on my desk, on the carpet, on my clothes. This is quite possibly the biggest nuisance I've purchased willingly in a long time.
To be fair though, it reaches very toasty temperatures (I had it on high a couple of times and it was just too hot to sleep in). It keeps the bed very toasty during cold days (if you remember to turn it on 30+ minutes before you go to bed). If you can handle the fuzz, more power to you.
