5Great improvement over our last one  Feb 14, 2010
Our last Sunbeam blanket shed fuzz balls until we gave up on it. Even after Sunbeam replaced it the new one did the same. Multiple washes didn't cure it.

This time we selected a more woven than plush model. It warms nicely and no fuzz. The preheat feature is great. One of us just presses the PH button shortly before bed time and it warms up then goes to the last setting.

1history of problems  Dec 05, 2009
Used a few times last winter and it worked great. Tried to use it again this winter and no dice. It gets a TINY bit hot after a few hours, but nothing like it used to. I googles "sunbeam electric blanket problems" and found a whole bunch of other people with the same problem. What a ripoff!

5Don't waste your money...this won't last long!  Nov 22, 2009
This blanket was nice for one winter, then didn't work at all when I plugged it in this year. Sunbeam requires you to send it to them, mines a King to the tune of $40 shipping so they can Repair it and send it back. HMMM $40.00 plus the $100.00 I paid for it....will it "break again" and will I have to send it back AGAIN? I have three years left on the warranty!!! How many times will I buy this blanket in 5 years? I'm not sure whether I WANT to FIX IT, and they won't just replace it, nor will the store take it back.
Don't waste your money on a Sunbeam Product is my advice.

ADDENDUM

There definitely seems to be a problem with Sunbeam blankets.

I purchased mine (another model) a year ago, it worked that winter, and when I pulled it out this year it was just plain Dead.
Considering I spent a hundred dollars on it, and I really loved the blanket last winter, I was sorely disappointed by this event.

I emailed customer service three times and received three useless replies.

They wanted me to mail my King Sized, Dead blanket to Mississippi to be "Repaired"; shipping it at MY expense....can you say $45.00?
Now...I had a 50/50 chance of this blanket going in to be fixed (I am only in year two of my five year warranty)only to have it happen again after it was "fixed". If I had to send it again to be "fixed" to the tune of $45.00, I'd have nearly bought a new one. I really did not want this blanket back, it is obviously defective in some way, or just bad by design...of which, I do not know. Somehow this just didn't make sense to me and the odds felt very against my favor.

I truly had tried to get this blanket to work six times, as did my husband. I orginally bought it for him as we have sub-zero weather and it's nice when he gets off at 6 a.m. to crawl into a heated bed after he's half frozen. So you see, this was important to me to find a resolution to this problem. I even looked at other brands of blankets, but there are not many out there, it would seem Sunbeam has a cornered this market quite well, and what is out there, is three times as expensive. I...happen to think $100 for a blanket is exhorbitant, but with heat...well worth it. IF it works.

So I offered to spend ANOTHER $100 on a $200.00 Sunbeam blanket for a NEW one. And they said they didn't do Exchanges...apparently the extra $100 wasn't worth pleasing Me. Odd, I thought. So this time I emailed customer service and I asked to have my message forwarded to a Supervisor as the Customer Service responses were unacceptable at best. I informed them that I had posted EIGHT bad reviews on the internet and if they did not wish to accomodate me in some way, that I had all week to write Bad Reviews on their blankets. I also told them I was contacting Jarden, the parent company about this. One lovely Customer Service lady had the gall to tell me their products were excellent...really? Because MINE ISN'T and then I copied all the reviews from Amazon and sent them to her to prove that..no, they are NOT excellent! Here's your proof on 75 reviews! After that email, I looked up the President of Jarden and got his phone number, I was prepared to call him on Monday morning.

Believe me...in this age, reviews are important!! If you buy something...leave a review! Even if you aren't buying from Amazon, leave a review here! It makes a difference!!

Now for the good part...

DON'T ACCEPT NO FOR AN ANSWER!! I'm glad I didn't!
While I was shopping on Saturday, a very nice lady from Sunbeam called me to say she was going to assist me with my problem.
I was shopping after Thanksgiving and was standing in Best Buy at the time, and she offered to call me Tuesday.
Today is Tuesday, and she did as promised, she called.
She had all my information and emails, she asked for some numbers off of my blanket, and promised to send me shipping tags to mail my blanket back to them at their cost!! Yay, finally someone helpful!!

AND she ordered me a new blanket!!!!
I could NOT BE MORE PLEASED at this point! And I'm praying my new blanket will not have any problems.
But very happy that Sunbeam addressed my problem and made me happy! Now THAT is Customer Service!!!

So...IF you have a problem with YOUR blanket, contact Sunbeam. Don't just eat the money you spent, your money is as good as mine is, and your product SHOULD WORK. I feel that Sunbeam did what was right by their product and as consumers we have a right to be happy with our purchases. A blanket with a five year warranty SHOULD WORK FOR FIVE YEARS right? If it doesn't, they need to honor our purchase with a product that will work.

Anyway...Happy with SUNBEAM!!!

4Be careful if you let your kids or pets play on the blanket  Feb 01, 2009
First of all, this is a really good blanket. It is very soft, not very stiff at all, the wires are thin and flexible, the dual controls are great, and it heats the bed up nicely.
But my biggest problem with this blanket is that the fibers on the front can be pulled out waaaay too easily. Those fibers make up a little decorative pattern on the front, but they are loose enough that your pet's claws, your fingernails, and even just everyday wear can pull them out and create a multitude of little loops. Then the front become not very decorative at all. I own two cats that sleep on the bed with me, and they have made the front of my blanket look very ragged. I've since been keeping the blanket under my comforter all the time and try to keep the front of the blanket covered whenever I can.
I really like this blanket and way it warms up my bed, but I sure wish I could keep it looking better.

4Fantastic for a Heating Blanket  Nov 12, 2008
My husband recently bought this heating blanket which we had on our wedding registry. I've always loved the warmth of a heating blanket and hated the way they feel. They're always that awful crappy material and so terribly ugly. This one is NOT that! It is woven on the top and soft kind of like fleece, but not so thick, on the bottom. We got the Queen which has heat control on each side of the bed so I can have it warmer and my husband can have it cooler. You can still kind of feel the wires, which is always a bummer with a heating blanket, but it's the least noticable I've ever had and it doesn't bother either of us. We turn it on a little while before we go to bed and it makes it feel amazing when you crawl in. Highly highly recommend.
