Beautiful color, feels great, good quality but wrinkles due to thread count Jan 15, 2009
By Gratitude
"Mommy to my two wonderful little ones!!"
I was offered the Pinzon Damask 440 thread count Queen Duvet Set in the Saddle color from the Amazon Vine Program to review. Right when I removed it from the package, I was thrilled! It looked BEAUTIFUL. A really nice, neutral 'mocha' type of color. I love neutral colors that you can blend easily with other colors but some tones tend to be too pink or too yellow and this is neither, it's a truly beautiful, neutral but NOT 'blah' mocha color in my opinion. The color on my monitor on the Amazon product page is dead on accurate. The best thing of course, is that the dye lot matches so the duvet and 2 pillow shams were all identical in color. (I know that this is a given but I have received some mismatched colors from other brands in the past.)
Before washing it, it had this beautiful sheen to it - not metallic but this somewhat glossy sheen that I loved. After washing though, most of the 'sheen' was gone but some still remained. The color of the duvet set however, held true and did not bleed at all. All is great, it washed & dried really well, it fits on our Queen sized comforter & pillows perfectly but my only complaint is that it wrinkles somewhat around the finished edges of the pillow case. I lightly touched them up with a low heat iron to smooth them out and they've stayed like that ever since.
I DO prefer this 440 thread count as opposed to the similar version of the Pinzon brand in the 400 thread count. There is a BIT of a difference but not much. The 440TC is SLIGHTLY more crisp.
I think it's a good quality Duvet at a fair price now that Amazon has dropped the price on it (at the time of writing this, it's listed at $59.99). However, if you can catch this on sale at $15-$20 less, then I'd say it's an INCREDIBLE DEAL for the quality and to nab one! I would however recommend this 440TC set over the similar 400TC set.

Pretty for show: don't wash it!!!! May 10, 2010

I was very happy with the colour and quality of the duvet cover--it looked beautiful and fit very well.
I washed it very gently, with cold water, and dried it gently too. IT SHRANK. The cat sat on it. Her claws made pulls in the fabric every time she moved. Her fur stuck to it. I washed it again. Cold. IT SHRANK AGAIN.
The whole point of a duvet cover is that you can WASH it.
Use it for staging a home, and not for living in it!

Heed the washing instructions Dec 26, 2008

First, the suggested retail at $180 is wishful thinking on someone's part; no one should pay that amount for this item. The full/queen set is currently selling at $59.99, and that is also pretty steep. For that price, you could easily find a combined comforter, shams, plus sheet set, not just a duvet and sham for a full bed. Nevertheless, the 440 thread count quality is unmistakable; in fact, the thick, satiny feel of the fabric could lead you to believe that the thread count is higher. For that reason, one could easily use the duvet just as a coverlet, especially on a full size bed. The saddle color is true to Amazon's picture; it is a warm, medium brown without a hint of yellow.
This set is made in China. The workmanship is excellent, and the fabric is indeed marked 100 percent cotton. However, what Amazon does not provide are the washing instructions, which are on the set:
"Machine Wash Cold
"Only non-chlorine bleach when needed
"Tumble Dry Low
"Remove Promptly from Dryer
"Iron on low if needed"
The washing instructions are, frankly, a deal breaker for me for these reasons. Bedding get dirty sometimes, especially with grandchildren, without going into more detail than that. I prefer to wash mine in at least warm water because I believe that it gets cleaner. Second, my dryer does not have a low setting; it's either hot or air dry. That means that I can't dry this bedding in my dryer; it would have to be hung up or professionally laundered. If you are going to purchase this item, be prepared to follow the laundry instructions explicitly because warm water and heat will most definitely cause shrinkage, which will really be a problem if for a queen sized bed.

very nice duvet cover set - no warranty Nov 10, 2009
By lightstream This is an excellent, well made and nicely designed duvet cover set. The duvet cover has a cool hidden closure moved about 12 inches up from the bottom. The closure has extra large buttons and hides them very well. The overall feel is one of excellent quality. The color is rich, like in the photo (I got the cedar color) and didn't fade after one washing. The duvet cover has a two inch border on all four sides which matches the look of the shams (edited: the border is on three sides, as it should be). I would have preferred the shams to be a couple inches wider to fit better with queen sized pillows but the 26" width seems to be standard with most duvet cover sets. I'm glad the shams were included. The cover is 88" x 88" but my 90" x 96" duvet stuffs into it just fine, it feels like a perfect fit.
It has such a quality feel I don't understand why Amazon doesn't include a warranty. I didn't know there was no warranty beyond Amazon's standard thirty day return policy when I bought this and a comforter and some sheets, all with Amzazon's private Pinzon label. I knocked off one star for Amazon's lack of faith in their own house brand.

Warm and attractive Jan 08, 2009
By Rhonda Roberts I washed these as soon as I got them in warm water to get the sizing out. The smell was pleasant when I got them out of the plastic. This is an improvement over some Pinzon stuff that smelled off at first. I've been using Pinzon sheets and bedding accessories for about two years now - I consider this an improvement.
I dried these and the duvet cover turned out wrinkly fresh from the dryer. This is probably because I washed them with a warm setting, or perhaps because the material is very thick? Very tight weave, very smooth to your hand but very, very dense. Good, because I have cats. So far, they haven't managed to make much of an impression on the duvet cover, which is a relief.
My overall impression is that the duvet cover and shams are really attractive and durable. I love the muted color. These are much nicer than other sets I own (which are not Pinzon). The Duvet cover is also much easier to slip over my goose down comforter which is so old I think the geese who supplied the feathers have re-incarnated at least twenty times by now. I mean, my comforter is a bit horrible, but this dressed it up nicely. The satiny strips are a big turn-on - but it's possible I'm just easy to please like that :p
The Duvet covers and the shams are still a bit stiff, but I suppose they will soften up with repeated washings. I'm a big fan of fabric softener, and must admit, it didn't make much of an impression on this set the first time out. The wrinkles did smooth over after time, but I would have preferred not to wait that out. So do use the cold setting initially, I guess? Seems counter-intuitive but I believe after several washings once everything's settled down you can go up to warm with no issues.
