The picture makes it look shiny. It is more of a brushed stainless. I believe the picture is misleading, but it does the job. I like the pedestal look.

The size and height of this soapdish are perfect, and the slightly brushed finish looks nice with our brushed nickel bathroom fixtures. The only thing that would be better would be if the base was weighted. The dish is so light that removing and replacing the soap during use caused it to slide around a lot.
It might be nice if the manufacturer would stop spending money on the printed little cloth bag that each piece comes in (just gets thrown away) and adds a little weight instead....
